The Maryland Mayflower Society is pleased to present a very special 2-part event to kick off 2025! The first GSMD Mayflower virtual talk explores Prof. Justin Jacobs’ new book: Plunder? How Museums Got Their Treasures. Prof. Jacobs teaches courses on Chinese and Japanese history, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the history of museums and archaeology. He has authored several books, including The Compensations of Plunder: How China Lost Its Treasures. He is instructor for the Great Course series on UNESCO World Heritage sites. The questions raised during his GSMD Mayflower lecture will be a theme throughout the day, and Prof. Jacobs will be personally available to the Maryland Society. 12:30pm-2:30: Mayflower Lunch at Glenwood’s Rockville Tower Oaks ($45)
We will continue our time together, by driving (roughly 15-20 minutes) to Glenwood’s located at 2000 Tower Oaks Blvd, Rockville MD 20852. Glenwood’s – GLENWOOD’S DINING Our esteemed Governor, Dan Earnshaw, has reserved a private gathering room for cocktails and conversation with Prof. Jacobs, who is available to sign copies of his new book. Your special Mayflower Menu is a beautiful salad appetizer, beef, chicken or pasta main, with soda, coffee & tea included. Cash bar. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free are also available upon request.
